The painters of the Out of the Blue Art Gallery are very open to providing you with portraits of your family, pet, home or special events in your life as long as you sit down and discuss it with founder, Tom Tipton and the artist you choose to design your painting. Sometimes having a picture often helps the artist have an idea to go on especially if you are hoping to have a real resemblance to your subject matter. If you going for a more surreal or imaginative look, (with colors that compliment your home already), inform the artist of that in advance. Try to figure out the size of the painting you want and if you want texture or a smooth look to the painting. You might want to decide if you want a glossy look or a more natural look. All of these details matter when you are deciding on a painting that you want for the rest of your life or someone else's life. Measure the space in your home or your friend's home to make sure the painting would fit and remember to allow more room for a frame especially if the frame you choose is a wider frame (allow at least two inches or more just for the frame). We do not do framing at Out of the Blue Art Gallery but we have access to framers since one of our artists, Sue Carlin, is a framer and works at a frame center located in Framingham, Massachusetts (The Frame Center). So matching the color of your frame to your furniture or your friend's or client's furniture can be a reality through Out of the Blue Art Gallery.
Cost? Well it really depends on what you want, the frame you want, the details of what you want included in your painting. We let the artists here decide on their own costs and since we are a community art gallery, our prices run much lower than galleries that are located on let's say Newbury Street. But the quality of our paintings and the variety of styles that you will find at Out of the Blue Art Gallery are top notch. Some of our painters hang on Newbury Street, but prefer to also have a location here in Cambridge as well. The prices of their artwork are more affordable at Out of the Blue Art Gallery even for the same painting that they would sell on Newbury Street. That is because our rent is lower and our hours are more open to the public and we are able to sell more frequently than galleries that are only open a few days a week. So we think no matter what, you will find our costs lower than the average gallery, which works out just great for you, right? And the fact that we sell more paintings, works out great for us and our artists!
Interior Decorators -- We are a Find:
If you are an interior decorator, we can be a real find for you! We have a few that visit us and choose a few of our artists to decorate homes at a reasonable rate. Our work is truly original, and the artists who are Cambridge/Boston bound and also from Europe paint in a variety of styles (landscapes, mixed media, portraits, abstracts and more) which opens a world of choices for you and your clients. Come and visit us and see for yourself. Our hours again are daily from Noon to 8pm. You may always call us too if you have specific requests or questions in advance.
