WE HAVE A NEW EMAIL ADDRESS!! outoftheblueartgallery@comcast.net (for issues related to our mailing list or Open Bark Poetry, please email instead to: ootb_rob@yahoo.com) The Birth of Out of the Blue Gallery: ![]() Out of the Blue Gallery began in the fall of 1996 through the inspiring efforts of Tom Tipton and a handful of artists. This group believed that artists should be nurtured on their creative path towards sharing their work with the public. Their primary goal was to ensure an enhancing and affordable experience for both the artist and the consumer. In the early days, art shows were held at downtown Boston lofts, but soon it was decided that the gallery needed a home. When a little blue storefront, somewhat resembling a seaside cottage, became available, the next incarnation of Out of the Blue was born at 168 Brookline Avenue, in Cambridge, MA. OUR NEW LOCATION - YES! WE'VE MOVED TO 106 PROSPECT STREET, (CENTRAL SQ.) Out of the Blue Gallery has moved to 106 Prospect Street ... closer to the Red Line T Station of Central Square MBTA Stop and just across the street from the Bread and Circus. This new location hangs approximately 40 to 50 artists and for a very low fee, on a monthly basis, artists usually pay $25 to hang three pieces (of average size). The gallery regularly holds benefit shows to support a variety of charities. All types of artists -- new and accomplished -- from a variety of backgrounds and abilities have presented and sold their unique work. Paintings, drawings, sculptures, mixed media, pottery, mobiles and scarves are just some of the pieces you can find decorating the space. All types of expression exist at Out of the Blue, including performance art such as poetry and short story readings, music, acting and much more! The primary purpose of the Gallery has been, is and will continue to be, to organize and display to the public at large, the artwork of people from the local and expanding community. The gallery encourages artists of all backgrounds to show with us and we support all of artists and celebrate the uniqueness they carry from their different cultures, religions, genders, ages and academic background. Artists of all abilities are given a chance. Sharing in the expression of the arts, in all of its varieties of form, be it painting, drawing, poetry, short story, acting or singing, is what inspires all of us to be who we are and inspire the fire within every one of us.Gallery Hours The gallery is usually open every day from 10:30 - 8:00 pm, or sometimes even later. We have a large variety of art for viewing and for sale, but because our staff is minimal and appears on a volunteer basis, we urge our patrons to always call ahead of time. The gallery is often rented and features many activities, so we suggest calling just in case you walk in and unexpectedly become part of a puppet show or are asked to be a feature poet! Oops!
